A Little Thing

Homemade mayonnaise.  Try it.

  1. If you add a bit of whey to your homemade mayo, it will last for about 6 months. For instructions, see:

  2. Wow! I Googled "how long will homemade mayonnaise last?" before I started but missed this. Have you done it? I'll try it next time.

  3. I made my batch back in December -- with whey. It's still good. However, I've not used it much. I suppose that I could use it as a kind of dip. Or as a topping when I bake fish. (My mother-in-law does that.) Or ???

  4. I've already used mine on top of a hamburger (no bun, but I used a knife and fork, thank you very much ;) ) and for dipping red bell pepper. The bell pepper wasn't so hot with the mayo but I think I can make ranch dressing from it to use with veggies. (Need to look that up). In fact, I made the mayo because I just discovered that Samantha will eat just about anything with ranch dressing on it, and I figured she'd like this too. I was right! She dips green beans in it. She also likes mayo on asparagus. I'd rather give her homemade if I can manage it, and mayo is one of my favorite things. If I don't use it up in a few days, I'll make deviled eggs or egg salad with it. It might be nice even to dip hard boiled eggs in. They can be so dry.

Can you tell I have been influenced by GCBC? Book review coming on Monday...
