A Little Thing

"Mommy, how old are you?"

"Forty."

"Wow. That's a lot.  I'm not going to be forty until...until...until I'm older."

  1. My niece was obsessed with asking people how old they were when she was about 5. She would ask me perhaps three or four times in the course of an afternoon when I would spend the day with her, although she knew exactly how old I was. I haven't heard the question for a long while now--she's six and a half. The closest she's come is yesterday, when in line for a Merry-go-round and she announced, "Maybe when I'm 7 I won't need a car seat." (she's right about that--she's just on the threshold of the age and weight requirements in California).
